Course Overview

This Advanced Tactical Rifle Training Course is designed for experienced shooters who want to develop advanced rifle handling skills and integrate pistol transitions under realistic conditions.

Students will work through progressive live-fire drills focusing on speed, efficiency, target discrimination, and weapon transitions while maintaining safe weapon handling and accuracy standards.

This course emphasizes rifle-to-pistol transitions when the rifle becomes inoperable or empty, reinforcing the ability to stay in the fight while maintaining control and situational awareness.

All training is conducted on the live fire range with instructor supervision and performance evaluation.

Course Objectives
Upon completion students will be able to:

• Perform efficient rifle-to-pistol transitions under time pressure

• Engage multiple targets with rifle and pistol

• Maintain accuracy while shooting from multiple positions

• Demonstrate malfunction clearing under stress

• Apply movement and positional shooting techniques

• Conduct rapid target acquisition and threat engagement

• Maintain weapon control during weapon transitions

 
Equipment Requirements
Rifle
  • Semi-automatic rifle (AR-15 style recommended)
  • Minimum 3 magazines
Pistol
  • Semi-automatic pistol
  • Minimum 3 magazines
Ammo
  • Rifle: 400–500 rounds
  • Pistol: 150–200 rounds
Gear
  • Sling for rifle (strongly recommended)
  • Holster (OWB or duty style preferred)
  • Magazine pouches
  • Eye and ear protection
  • Appropriate range clothing

Advanced Rifle Handling

• Ready positions and rifle presentation

• Target transitions and engagement cadence

• Controlled pairs and failure drills

Rifle Malfunction Management

• Immediate action drills

• Induced malfunction drills

• Emergency reloads

Rifle to Pistol Transitions

• Emergency transitions

• Transition mechanics and muzzle control

• Engaging threats with pistol after rifle failure

Movement Drills

• Forward and lateral movement

• Shooting on the move

• Positional shooting (kneeling, barricade, prone)

Multiple Threat Engagement

• Target discrimination

• Controlled engagement sequencing

• Time-pressure drills

Performance Evaluation
Students must demonstrate the ability to:

• Safely operate rifle and pistol at all times

• Conduct proper rifle-to-pistol transitions

• Engage targets with minimum 80% accuracy standard

• Complete final evaluation drill safely and efficiently

Students failing to meet the 80% performance standard may be given additional coaching and a re-attempt if time permits.
 
***Prerequisites***
Students must have prior experience with:

• Safe firearm handling

• Basic rifle operation

• Basic pistol operation

• Holster draw fundamentals

Completion of Tactical Rifle Level 2 or equivalent training is strongly recommended.
