About North Idaho Firearms Training

I am excited to announce that I will be teaching Firearms Classes at Idaho Guns & Outdoors newest location in Athol.  The Grand Opening is July 20th & 21st!  Come check out their showroom. 

Classes will be taught in the upstairs classroom, that overlooks the showroom floor. Classes will include the Idaho Enhanced CCW, Rifle, Shotgun, Pistol, Range Safety Officer, Home Firearms Safety, New Shooters Seminars, Youth Classes, and how to field strip and clean your firearms. 

Students will receive NRA or USCCA Certificates after each class. Check back for class listings, dates, times, and links to sign up.

The 2nd Amendment of the United States Constitution guarantees our right to keep and bear arms. It, however, does not protect you against frivolous lawsuits. Like many red blooded Americans I carry a firearm everyday. 

Regardless if you live in a “shall carry” state, or a state that requires a concealed carry permit, you need to think about civil liability. What if you have to use your firearm. Even in a true self defense situation, repercussions can be severe. 

First, there is the criminal aspect. There will be an investigation, and a referral to the district attorney’s office for review. The district attorney agrees it’s self defense, and the criminal component has been cleared, but what about the civil element. 

Civil court proceedings are completely separate from criminal, and can be a long difficult fight. You will need a good attorney, one that understands situations like this, and the ability to pay for that attorney for potentially several months.

Tactical Shotgun Class DATE TBD

The Idaho Enhanced CCW is a must have, regardless if you are a resident of Idaho or not.  Training includes, concealed carry, constitutional carry, open carry, Idaho State Laws, Federal Laws, situational awareness, when do you have the right to self defense, live course of fire, and what to expect should the unfortunate need arise, and deadly force is used.  The law portion of this class is taught by members of the Post Falls Police Department Command Staff.  

This training, per Idaho state law requires 8 hours of training, with range time being included.  

The Idaho Enhanced CCW is accepted in 38 states, to include Washington, Montana & Wyoming.

All classes will require a firearm, 100 rounds of ammunition, belt, holster, spare magazines, carry case, cover garment for concealed drills, eye & ear protection, close toe shoes, warm clothes (when applicable), snacks & drinks for class.

Advanced Rifle & Pistol Training takes everything you learned in our Intermediate course, but turned up.  Speed, safe movement, target acquisition, and marksmanship all come together.  Courses of fire are faster, more complex, and require attention to detail.  

Guest Instructors for these classes include retired Green Berets & Rangers.  Soldiers with real world combat experience, and expertise.

Chris Schaefer is a firearms instructor, and the owner of Make Ready LLC. Chris retired from law enforcement after nearly 25 years of service.  He is a firearms instructor for several years now, and is very knowledgeable about this industry.  Chris has been gracious with his time helping me with classes, and his insight has been invaluable.  

Chris is offering ”FREE” firearms training classes for a limited time.  Currently he has two full classes, but will gladly add more upon demand.  I highly encourage anyone and everyone to take a class from Chris. He will impart his knowledge and training, that can only make you better.

Range Safety Officers are an essential component for every shooting range, and the NRA is the Platinum Standard for certification. Classes are taught by a NRA Certified Chief Range Safety Officer, who have taken upon themselves to complete many hours of additional training.

This class is taught by some of the best CRSO’s in North Idaho. This is an all classroom setting that requires the passing of a written test at 90% minimum.  

This class also has portions where the prospective RSO will demonstrate their knowledge of firearms, their ability to talk a shooter through the correct procedure of clearing a malfunction, or clearing the malfunction themselves in a safe manner as to not damage the shooters firearm, or injure themselves, and the shooter.  

Passing of this class earns you the title: NRA Range Safety Officer!

As retired Law Enforcement we enjoy a special privilege granted to us via 18 U.S.C. 926B & 926C, the 2004 Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act (LEOSA), also referred to as “HR-218”.  Qualification is a 25 round course of fire, after which, I will provide you with a form that you can take to your local Sheriff’s office to apply for your yearly ID Card, or for your yearly renewal.  For your initial for I also offer notary services included in the fee.  Email me to schedule a time, and we can meet at the range.  

Cory Blanchard and I will be scheduling several dates to qualify retirees in 2025 at Farragut Shooting Range. Notary will be present for KCSO forms.
